Programs Internship
Learn about direct-service work by supporting programs that work directly with families and their children. The Programs Intern supports both Cope’s Home Visiting and Family Resource Center programs with various tasks and responsibilities. They also gain knowledge and insight into direct service work with parents and families by shadowing the programs. Some key responsibilities are listed below.
To guide this person throughout their internship, they will have a Supervisor. Weekly supervisions will provide the intern with the opportunity to reflect on the experience and receive guidance on performance and task management. Additional learning opportunities are available through the shadowing of other departments and informational interviews of Cope’s staff if the intern is interested.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Supporting the Parents as Teachers® Home Visiting Program
Prepare materials for home visits
Help plan monthly family social events with developmentally appropriate activities
Support with data entry (referrals, developmental screenings, etc.)
Scanning and filing of client files
Learn the home visiting model including preparing for a visit, shadowing a visit and completing the visit follow up documentation
Other tasks and special projects as needed
Supporting the Family Resource Center
Supporting the front desk on a weekly schedule
Learn the skills to provide drop-in service to walk-in clients
Be trained on how to identify which resources a client may need and learn how to make referrals
Help maintain and organize stock of emergency supplies that are given to clients
Support FRC with administrative tasks such as mail distribution, resource organization and distribution. data entry, scanning, filing, etc.
Other tasks and special projects as needed
Duration: Minimum of 3 months with regular weekly hours
Schedule: Mutually agreed upon hours during Cope’s business hours (M-F, 8:30am-5:00pm)
Compensation: At this time we are only able to offer this as an unpaid internship.
Requirements: Must be 16+. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred but not required.
