Advocacy & Civic Engagement
A huge part of helping children and families is advocating on their behalf and empowering them to advocate for themselves. Cope works with clients, partners and the community to take action on issues that impact the well-being of children, families and future generations.
• We promote civic engagement and encourage families to get involved in causes that are important to them, through volunteering, voting, contacting their elected officials, and attending public meetings.
• We advocate at the local, state and federal level for legislation and policies that impact children, families and our communities.
• We educate and raise awareness about the impact of child abuse and neglect and how building community and individual resilience can protect and heal children.

In addition to our own advocacy work, Cope collaborates with other community organizations, government agencies and elected officials to affect positive change for our community and the families who live here.
Cope is the lead agency of the Child Abuse Prevention Council of Napa County (CAPC) which collaborates on and advocates for public policy that impacts children’s safety and healthy development. CAPC also oversees awareness campaigns to engage the community in prevention efforts.
Every April, CAPC presents a report on the status of children and families in Napa County to the Board of Supervisors as they proclaim April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Check out the more recent report here!
Cope is a founding member of and the financial lead for the Community Leaders Coalition (CLC). The CLC responds to changes in local, state or federal policies that may cause concern or fear in the community. They work to build a vibrant community that is inclusive and equitable - where trust, safety, health, well-being, education, and empowerment is fostered.
Currently the CLC is focusing on:
Voter’s Choice Napa (California Voter’s Choice Act): Increasing the accessibility of voting for all residents in Napa County.
Open & Effective Government: Enhancing the community’s ability to locally influence legislation and the allocation and use of resources to provide opportunities for healthy living by creating a culture of increased accessibility and transparency.
Strengthening Immigrant Families: Mobilizing partners, resources and outreach strategies to advocate on behalf of immigrant families in Napa County. This year the CLC is working with the NVCOAD and Live Healthy Napa County to develop a Language Access Plan that will increase access to county systems to Napa County’s Latine residents.
Leadership Capacity Building Initiative: Developing leaders through On the Verge/Latines Lead Napa to increase the capacity of community and government systems by partnering with Latine community members, building Latine residents’ capacities and abilities to co-create system improvements, and advocating for policy change.
